Your guide to Priority Pass!
Most premium credit cards such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve and American Express Platinum offerings have a benefit called “Priority Pass.” In this post, I’ll answer questions that you may have.
How does it work?
When you are approved for a credit card that offers this benefit, you have to request the card issuer (eg. American Express) to enroll you in the Priority Pass program. This can be easily done by calling them up, or on their website.
After this, you will receive a card in the mail that looks like this:
Priority Pass is essentially a network of lounges that are contracted to accept the card and let you enter. There are over 1,300 lounges in the Priority Pass network across the world. Chances are that every airport you fly to/from will have a Priority Pass offering. You can check all the Priority Pass lounges on their app or at this link: Airport Lounges - Over 1,300 Lounges Worldwide | Priority Pass and entering the location in the top left-hand corner.
At the lounge:
When you are at the lounge, just had the agent your card. They will ask for a confirmed boarding pass as well. After a few minutes, you should be on your way into the lounge! Most cards allow 2 guests in addition to the cardholder. While this may not be ideal for a family of 4, having 2 premium cards will allow access for the whole family.
Priority Pass also allows you to use your card at certain restaurants that Priority Pass has contracted with. Usually, this means a $28 dollar discount per person including guests. This doesn’t include a tip, so be sure to leave a reasonable tip for your waiter. Even still, $28 will go a long way, even in an airport restaurant. This can be a huge saving for families.
Priority Pass is a great way to get your whole family into lounges without paying top-dollar for business or first-class seats. It doesn’t matter if you are traveling in basic economy or first-class, Priority Pass evens the playing field and allows people like you and me to enjoy the benefits of an exquisite airport lounge!
